Class of 2014!!

Summer is here and Omaha is beautiful and green!!  It's time for senior pictures!!!  First up, Jack!  His parents contacted me about taking some photos and they decided on an urban setting in the Old Market.  The photo shoot also included some movement around the greenery climbing up the buildings of downtown, painted doorways, and endless possibilities.  I was very excited and there were many favorites from the day!!

When I met Jack a couple of weeks ago, the first words that came to my mind were, "extremely well rounded!" He definitely has a bright future ahead of him and he made my job a cake walk with his enthusiasm.  Jack excels in drum line at school and excelled in picking this pose too...

is active in theatre/drama, a serious Cardinals fan,

has been part of the Boy Scouts for most of his life, & loves the outdoors.

I have had the pleasure of getting to know his parents over the past couple of years and they are truly laid back and fun.  I give them major props for raising such a cool graduate!!  After our photo session, I left wondering how I could do such a great job with my own son.  :)  A family of rockstars for sure!!

On that note, let's go chill downtown...

 A restaurant fave...

Way to go Mom!  I can see why you are so proud of Jack!

My personal favorite of the day!

At the moment, Jack is still contemplating school decisions and applications for the upcoming year, but is leaning toward a solid future in mechanical/aeronautical engineering.  Awesomeness!!

I wish you the best this summer, Jack!  Enjoy this time of your life...it's the best!!  I can't wait to hear how graduation day goes and where the next chapter of your story unfolds.  Thanks for a great day and making this job so much fun!!

LOVE IS...

I love my job.  It allows me to connect and cross paths with so many wonderful people while offering the flexibility to take it with me during our travels!

Here’s the story.  Several months back, I received a referral from one of my dear friends (thank you!!).  Her brother-in-law was recently engaged to be married and someone I have known over the years.  His fiancĂ© called to inquire about photography for their wedding and offered me the job!  Yay!!  I am really excited for the opportunity and Dave and Stefanie seem very easy going and fun!  After the wedding conversations, Stefanie called to see if I wanted to do engagement photos for them too!  It worked out with our holiday travels and I got a chance to meet up with this awesome-beautiful couple!!

We picked a day early in the vacation and can I just say, we had incredible weather?!!!  It was in the 40’s (very warm for December) and snow on the ground, and if you have ever been to Wyoming, you know that it is a rare day when you have no wind!!  What a beautiful day with a gorgeous couple!  These are the days where your spirits are lifted and all you can do is smile with excitement!!   It’s gonna be good!!

Stefanie and Dave met in Laramie a couple of years ago and they are SUCH a cute fit.  He is a busy Chiropractor in Laramie and Stefanie is a hard working law student at UW.  Stefanie is from Cheyenne and wanted to capture some of her hometown.  It was very fun for this photographer because Cheyenne revealed so many new backdrop options & I got the opportunity to sneak a peek of their wedding location.  It will be fantastic in the summer!  We started at the Train Depot, moved downtown, and finished up at the park/botanical gardens!  Like I said, they were easy going, fun, and it was great to be outdoors!!

One of my favorites!!

Planning for a kiss with a dip...

Excuse me while I gush a little…so beautiful!!

Thank you Dave & Stefanie for the fun morning shoot and I am excited to see you again this summer!!  It truly was a pleasure!!  Have a very Happy New Year & may your wedding planning go seamlessly!

Something Ugly

Yes, it is possible as a photographer that you might just take an ugly picture!  My husband and I gave it our best effort!!   In this case, I think our attempts were unsuccessful because the pictures below turned out pretty cute!!

This holiday season was super busy with activities and work (thank you btw!).  However, we carved in some fun time with friends.  Ugly sweaters seemed to pave the way for the 2012 festivities and we were so excited!  Tyler and I attended an annual Ugly Sweater Christmas party and our attire was rather tame. He wore a shirt with reindeer shouting, “There’s no business like snow business!  I found a nice complimentary (14-year-old girl) Santa wish list sweatshirt.  She was wishing for a pony with a rainbow mane or a sleepover with a BFF to name a few!  It was funny!

On to the main event, parents day out!!  As couples, we signed up for Omaha’s Ugly Sweater Race!!!  It was awesome!!  An untimed 5K with costume attire ranging from the pink bunny mimicking  “The Christmas Story” movie to several reindeer pulling Santa in a shopping cart!  My husband rocked a sweater that celebrates all holidays starting in August.  Yes folks, it is the sweater vest that can be worn for many occasions! LOL!  As a group, I have to say we did very well following the ugly theme, from band pants, crazy socks, sweater headbands, & tutus!!  The race was fun and we were cooled off with Omaha’s first heavy snowfall afterward!   It was so pretty…and a little chilly!  We decided to regroup and enjoy some yummy Mexican food before retrieving all of our kids from childcare.  What a great memory for all of us and we had a blast!!

After saying our goodbyes, the Christmas holiday was only days away.  Our household packed up and headed to Wyoming for family time, skiing, and lots of driving!  J  2500 miles this time!  Can I just say…”whoa.”

From Red Umbrella Photography, I truly hope you had a wonderful holiday season. Looking forward to 2013 and new adventures!!  God bless another year!!

Beautiful

I title this blog, beautiful.  When you see this senior, you are going to see why...she is beautiful!!  I had a great time at this photo shoot.  First, I met Alyssa's mom through the military and she has the best sense of humor!   I am not even kidding.  She always makes me laugh and I know their household must be full of laughter!  This family has been told they should have their own reality TV show because they are very entertaining.  In our short time together last week, the interaction between mom and daughters was awesome!!  Alyssa is the first to be graduating and loves art and all things vintage.  I love her creative mind already!!  She wanted to take pictures in the Old Market Park in Omaha and I jumped at the opportunity.  With the sun going down more quickly in the evening, we worked swiftly between the end of a school day and sunset, but embraced the city art, bridges, and landscapes.  :)

Here is a sneak peek of this gorgeous senior!!

There were lots of great pieces of art to get creative with...

Such a fun personality!!!

A great surprise!!

Last photo...time to call it...we lost the sun.  :)  Beauty at dark.

Thanks Alyssa and family for brightening my day!  I had a blast and I hope you have a wonderful senior year and graduation!!  Looking forward to hearing where life takes you!  Class of 2013!!

XO,

Jodi

One year flies by...

It is true!  Time flies!!  That is the case with the newest portrait session as I gazed into the eyes of a one year old!  One year ago, I was photographing her mom at 38 weeks!  It doesn't seem possible that Violet can be already celebrating that first milestone.  And, that her other daughter, Alice just turned 4!!    Seriously, don't blink.  :)

I had such a awesome time with this family.  Mitch and Stephanie are great parents and wonderful people.  Stephanie and I go way back.  We were teammates on our high school cross-country/track teams and as fate would have it, we were both placed in Omaha 10+ years later!!  It has been so much fun to reconnect and embrace this new stage in life...family, kids, continued friendship.

Okay, all reminiscing aside, this photo shoot was fun!  Violet and Alice were so well mannered and fun to work with.  It was a chilly day, but we did our best to move quickly and attempted to capture the last little bit of fall leaves before winter officially settles in.   Here's a quick peek!

Sisters.

Isn't this the sweetest?

Stephanie and Mitch!!  You have a beautiful family full of blessings!  May you have a wonderful holiday season and love you much!!  Thanks for allowing me to capture a few moments!!

Hugs,

JS
